10 January 2012: It does seem like it’s been an astonishingly mild winter so far. I’m sitting here with my new insulated Hunters and moon boots waiting for the snow so I can feel proper smug — but where IS it? Anyway, if you haven’t got around to buying a new winter coat yet, then you are a) clver and b) lucky as prices have been slashed by the poor retailers with all that stock to shift. Up today some EXTREMELY good bargains from Jaeger, from capes to duffel coats, who really do make excellent quality outerwear:
Coco Wool Cape, Was £330 Now £130
Shearling Collar Coat, Was £450 Now £180
The Buckingham Coat, Was £450 Now £225
The Short Tweed Cambridge Coat, Was £450 Now £135
Wool Blend Duffle Coat, Was £330 Now £130

I got a call last night to appear on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Breakfast show with Nicky Campbell and Rachel Burden this morning — the burning issue of the hour?
Christmas jumpers.

It is quite extraordinary how they have moved from last word in naff — Mr Darcy at his parent’s party — to the dernier cri in hip. I remember being sent quite hideous sequinned & beribboned holiday sweaters by friends in America when I was a teen, and immediately stuffing them at the back of the drawer.
Now I’m rather regretting that. I’m all for not taking oneself too seriously, and if that means wearing a penguin sweater, accessorised with antlers, then so be it…what do you all think? Anyone else here going to be wearing a holiday sweater with pride this Christmas?
Here’s a few of my current favourites. I particularly like that if you type ‘holiday sweater’ in to Netaporter it comes up with a natty little selection.
Jonathan Saunders Snowflake Fair Isle knitted cotton sweater £315
TOPSHOP Knitted Xmas Snowman Jumper £50.00
Moschino Penguin intarsia wool sweater £810

GANT CHRISTMAS IN VERMONT WOOL REINDEER CREW £150.00
J Crew Chunky-knit Fair Isle sweater £220
Chelsea Girl intarsia jumper hedgehog print intarsia jumper £35.00
Super chic:
Emma Cook Embellished merino wool sweater £170 (& there’s a lovely snowflake one too)
okay, it’s not really a holiday jumper, but I couldn’t resist:
ASOS Sausage Dog Jumper £30.00
02 December 2011: Here’s a fantastic pre-Christmas offer for my yummy friends: Save 30% at Boden.co.uk with Free Delivery until Sunday
Silk Embellished Dress £150.00

25 November 2011: I’ve had a lot of queries about this lovely coat that I wore for Samantha Cameron’s reception at Number 10 for the winners of the Red Hot Women of the Year Awards on Wednesday. I was actually given it by Jaeger to wear at their Jaeger London show, back at London Fashion Week in September. It’s the Valentine Cocoon Coat from Boutique by Jaeger, with a hidden gold button fastening and simple structural detailing at the shoulders. It was £399.00 but it’s just been reduced to a much more affordable £249.00 for the hot pink version and a still not bad £299 for the navy.
I absolutely love it: it’s beautifully tailored, and the slight cocoon shape looks modern, and is very flattering — and forgiving. With my large bust it still does up over the front, which isn’t always the case for me.

The Queen of Frocks is on a mission to provide interesting wardrobe solutions for women in their forties that don’t involve the dreaded mutton, or looking like the poor women are on the fast track to Sunny Avenues Retirement Home. Her range is being sold through House of Fraser in a dedicated shop in shop & online. Here’s our edit: (we are REALLY loving the No Brainer dress — forget forties, I’m in my thirties and it speaks to me too.)
Gold Slouch Animal Jacquard Knit, £85

Leather Ponte Mix Jacket, £280

16 August 2011: According to the UK newspapers yesterday that’s it. We’ve had our summer, and there are no more scorching days left to look forward to. I am not best pleased, as I have barely worn ANY of my summer wardrobe, owing to the lack of sun and what feels like continual rain. Altho, looking on the bright side (ha), I guess this means we will all get a lot more wear out of our AW11 wardrobes this year. Anyway, here’s a little new season edit from ASOS at very wallet friendly prices to ease you into the idea of a winter wardrobe:

Motel Laureen Sheer Panel Dress, £32.00

Oasis Snake Print Jumper, £42.00

Vero Moda Very Printed Trousers, £55

Minkpink ‘Stop and Stare’ Polka Dot Chiffon Blouse, £45

11 August 2011: As you may have gathered I am in Sweden right now for Stockholm Fashion Week. Although they aren’t showing here (they show as part of London Fashion Week), Acne are one of the lynchpins of the Swedish fashion scene. I’ve already had a good poke through the fabulous store conveniently — and dangerously — opposite my hotel, and thought this would be a good moment for a little Acne new season edit (all from Matches). First up — the Pistol boot, which is currently the clear winner in the most popular footwear in Stockholm prize, and the begetter of a zillion cheap copies too:

Pistol short boots, £370

Velocite Leather and Shearling Jacket, £1,620

Romantic Felt Wool Skirt, £270

Fisherman Wool Jumper, £290

Dorah Jacquard Knit Dress, £230

04 August 2011: Yet again, I find myself glued to the Whistles website. It’s super annoying as I am not supposed to be shopping with such dedication right now, yet how can I resist when I want IT ALL? Anyway, whilst I was sitting in Argos last Monday, waiting to buy a stepladder for my new flat, I amused myself by choosing my winter dress wish list for London Fashion Week purposes. Basically next season has my name writ large all over it as the 60s mod trend is just made for me: long sleeved, super short dresses. Lovely. I’ll take three, please. (And this is yet another reason why I love Whistles — they make dresses with sleeves.…the Holy Grail of the High Street.)

02 August 2011: Simplicity should never be underrated. Too many closets are bursting with ‘clever’ buys that never get worn, and there’s a lot to be said for beautifully made pieces that don’t date. I’m not going to pretend that Claudia’s Schiffer’s new cashmere & merino collection, launched yesterday on Netaporter, is a budget buy, but it is luxurious, chic and easy to wear. And a whole lot more credible than 99% of other supermodel commercial endeavours.
Merino wool and cashmere blend cardigan, £400
Merino wool and cashmere-blend dress, £345
Checked merino wool-blend dress, £320
Merino wool-blend sweater dress, £495
Striped merino wool-blend sweater dress, £295

___________________________________ 24 May 2011: The Duchess of Cambridge undertook her first engagement as a married member of the British royal family today, meeting Barack & Michelle Obama at Buckingham Palace. She wore British designers: Reiss for the dress and Anya Hindmarch for the clutch. Reiss is the same label that produced the white dress she wore for her her engagement portrait, shot by Mario Testino. This is the Duchess of Cambridge’s dress pick today: The Shola Bandage Dress in camel, which retails for £175. (It also comes in a rather nice marine blue)
The Maud — part of the Anya Hindmarch Bespoke Collection — is available in 29 colours in silk or 8 colours in lizard with a choice of frame and clasp. A secret message in your own handwriting can embossed onto the interior leather in either gold or silver and if created in silk, your initials can be embroidered onto the exterior in a choice of different fonts. . The Maud has been carried by Carla Bruni Sarkozy, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Moss, Goldie Hawn and Princess Diana. Anya Hindmarch bags are available at Netaporter here. ____________________ May 20 2011: Singaporean label Alldressedup showed here in Singapore on Tuesday night. Easy to find in Singapore, they are also available at Netaporter and The Outnet. Here’s what they are currently carrying from SS11 at Netaporter:
And here’s what’s in stock at The Outnet:
May 19 2011: My big discovery retail-wise this week has been Singapore label Raoul. I’ve spent waaaayyyyyy too much money in their store in Raffles City. Fortunately for you, they are stocked by Matches in London, and I asked them for their edit of their best-selling pieces for spring summer 2011: Global fashion consultant Joy Yaffe was wearing this spotty top at the Raoul show last night:
Polka Dot Top £118.00
Lace High Waist Shots £198.00
Janice Shoulder Bag £235.00
Lace All in One £298.00
Square Neck Dress £135.00 May 18 2011: It is hot AND sticky here in Singapore, so it’s been the ideal place to test out Uniqlo’s Dry Lux underwear. It promises lots of amazing things: an Air Conditioning Function to allows skin to breathe and to remove unwanted moisture from clothes, a Quick Dry function so that unnecessary body moisture dries quickly, a Cool Feeling function to takes heat out of the body and an Antibacterial Deodorisation function to keep the clothes odour-free. Well, I’m no scientist and I can only go by my own experience, but I wore the camisoles all day on Saturday and Sunday and was really impressed. I never felt over-heated, there were no sweat stains on my blue or white cotton shirts and I never felt damp or sticky. So I guess that means they work?! They aren’t expensive either — I was given mine to test out by the Uniqlo press office, but a basic cami comes in at £7.99 or two for £12.99/ I also liked that they came in pale lilac and nude, as well as black etc, so I could wear them under my pretty sheer summer blouses.
Dry Lux UV Cut Bra Sleeveless Top £12.99
Dry Lux UV Cut Striped Crew Neck Long Sleeve T-Shirt £12.99
Dry Lux Scoop Neck Short Sleeve T-Shirt £7.99 _______________________ 15 April 2011. AMAZING bargain in the Whistles sale! The Saskia Stud Dress, reduced from £80 to £50. ______________________________ Completely fell for this dress when I visited the Isabella Oliver 365 studio last week:
It’s a limited edition for the party season. £239 short and £269 long ($429/529 they sell in the US too.) _______________________
I tried this dress on at Zara in the Grove in Los Angeles last week, and LOVED. But they only had it in a medium, and my chest requires a large. It’s on the website tho. Described, minimalistically as ‘Long Dress with Bow at the Waist’, it’s enormously flattering. £49.99 or $79.99 __________________________ I know Leopard is everywhere this season, and I’ve bought into the trend with a vengeance, but if you want something a little bit different, may I recommend Whistles’ rather lovely silk zebra print skirt instead?
This would also be a good moment to point out that Whistles have up to 70% off in their sale. I bought this dress for £95 in the sale on Saturday. Yum. ________________________________ How extraordinarily beautiful is this dark green coat from RM by Roland Mouret? An investment, sure, but one that is so very worth it.
Sceptor coat £1698 _______________________________________________ I had no idea that Figleaves had their own lingerie line (shame on me), and it comes in small back/large cup sizes too. Very much liking that their styles come in lots of colours too, at a very competitive price. This is the Just Peachy Bra £16.
_____________________________________________________________________________________ I have this delicious silk dress in peacock blue AND in black, as Isabella Oliver were kind enough to gift me — and I wear & wear & wear them. Perfect under suit jackets with heels, they take me from meetings to smart lunches to evening meetings and then supper… but also look equally splendid with gold or silver flat sandals in the summer for wafting about it. Really cannot recommend highly enough — in fact I would have bought them if IO hadn’t got to me first. AND — they are 30% off in the Isabella Oliver sale right now in the US & in the UK. (The sale has just started and some pieces are up to 60% off.) There’s free delivery & free returns over £49 too. Isabella Oliver Butterfly dress now £105/$175
_______________________________________________________________________________ I first fell in love with moonstones in Sri Lanka, and these pretty drop earrings in 14ct yellow gold vermeil from New York based jeweller Amelie Bea remind me of the stones I saw there. £125, available exclusively from Astley Clarke they feature a white iridescent cascade of smooth moonstone drops and faceted briolettes.
______________________________– The best way I know to keep legs gorgeously warm in this revolting weather is to wear merino or wool tights. I am rather liking these Trasparenze Gennifer Merino Wool Tight from MyTights. Lots of lovely colours, made from 70% Wool, 15% Microfibre, 15% Lycra Elastane, and just £12.50.
___________________________________ Uniqlo’s denim really does put some higher priced brands to shame. UJ Denim for Women starts from £14.99. I like the coloured skinny jeans.
