Sofa: MADE.COM. Lamp & Shade: Habitat. Mirror: Antique. Carpet: Sourced from Ebay
(See end of post for details)

I’ve never known eleven months go so quickly – I moved into my new (ish) apartment at the beginning of May last year and the intervening months seem to have gone by on wheels. I still feel like I am settling into the space, and have nowhere near finished putting my interiors stamp on it.

However, I do have a beautiful sofa – the Made Scott in the photo above. My friend Alex has the same one in grass green velvet and I thought long and hard about which colour to order. In the end Lettice, my tiny red miniature Dachshund swayed the decision over to grey. It would all be way too technicolour (especially with a hangover) with her sitting on a green sofa.

I found the perfectly worn rug on Ebay just before I moved in, and kept my fingers crossed that it would work. The antique overmantel mirror my mother and I found at an Antiques Centre near Banbury  last November (she kindly gave it to me for my birthday), and my friends at Habitat kindly gifted me the walnut standard lamp. (What you can’t see in the pic is that the lampshade is lined in copper – it’s beautiful, and casts a really lovely mellow light.) The sand blanket is pure alpaca, and I bought it from a craft market in Peru.

The main things I am missing are a bookshelf – or shelving – for my hundreds of cookery books, which I want to put to the right of the fireplace, some kind of console for the drinks tray and TV and, most importantly, a coffee table. The latter, I think, will bring the whole room together and I’ve spent many hours simultaneously watching Masterchef and searching for the perfect table.

I thought I would give you all the benefit of my research: these are the tables I’ve narrowed down to include in my final edit. Mainly I can’t decide on a black, chrome or brass base. Once that’s done, it’ll be an easy decision…

habitat nestor rectangular marble table1
 currently 20% off. was £595.00 now £476.00
This is possibly my favourite of all the marble coffee tables I’ve found, and I’ve been seconds from pressing buy more than once. My problem is indecision…

Atkin & Thyme Stellar White Marble Coffee Table
ATKIN & THYME Stellar White Marble Coffee Table
This is beautiful, but I have chrome legs on my dining table so can’t decide if I should stick to chrome or black legs. The other point to note is that this table is a blogger favourite, and pops up continuously on Instagram photos.

Kartell Multiplo Square Marble Coffee Table - WhiteKARTELL (at Amara) Multiplo Square Coffee Table £1329
A serious investment, this table is part of a family of tables designed by Antonio Citterio and designed to look as good inside your home as it would outside in the garden. The top is stoneware, and the base is matte painted, die-cast aluminium.

A darker grey marble, with a brushed chrome frame. (Photo not to scale) Too dark for me, I think.

There may be a good reason the second one crops up a lot, definitely my favourite for the shape of the legs. Your sofa is wonderful!

Thank you! Yes, those brass legs are amazing

The Habitat one-there’s a reason it keeps coming back to that one. Trust your instincts!

It WAS my first choice! LLGxx

Loving the sofa and rug! The coffee table should really be proportionate to the rug (if you will be keeping it) hence much smaller. Other than that I love the second “Atkin” one as it goes with your current theme perfectly and warms up the marble or I would pick the one with wooden legs again to keep the marble warm… as all your other items are “warm” 🙂
Happy choosing!

Hello from Toronto. I sure love the Manitoba table. Second choice would be the Atkin and Thyme. Some pretty hard choices. Start with deleting a few and go from there. Good luck.

Definitely not the Kartell. it looks like office furniture. And definitely the Atkin and Thyme. It’s beautiful.

The Atkin. Elegant and less likely to bump into the legs.
