Holly, my sister, and I have been organising monthly sausage dog walks on the Heath since the beginning of the year – they are such a lovely way to explore one of London’s most beautiful spaces, and a great way to meet other Dachshunds and their owners.
We’re meeting today in the car park of the Gospel Oak Lido if anyone fancies joining us for a walk over Parliament Hill and up towards Kenwood.
The Heath is so beautiful at the moment – I did a two hour walk with Anne yesterday, with Maddie her cockapoo, Lettice, Maisie and the adorable Ziggy, a tiny dapple Dachshund that my sister is dog-sitting this week and, as I say every time, it’s very hard to believe when you are in the middle of a field, bordered by oak trees with birds wheeling above us in the sky that we are only a couple of miles from the West End.
A few weekends back we did a lovely walk my friend Ruby who took pity on Lazy Maisie and carried her home. Poor old Maimoo – we don’t really know her actual age, but we suspect she may be older than we originally thought. Perhaps even twelve years old, so it’s understandable that long walks aren’t exactly her all-time favourite thing. (That would be food.)
