I know. I look bizarre but bear with me. I’ve talked before about how much I love sheet masks: in the main I use them on ‘planes to give my skin a blast of much needed moisture on long-haul flights. I like the ease of use, and the fact that the convenient sachets get around the liquids limits in hand baggage. Equally no one needs any extra bottles or tubes that could burst or leak.
The main downside with traditional sheet masks on planes is that, once opened, they are wet. Very, very wet and gloopy and, once used, you are left with a soggy piece of tissue which needs disposing carefully.
Trust Charlotte Tilbury then to come up with not only a solution, but a better option. Her new Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask delivers all the hydration benefits of a traditional wet sheet mask without all the gloop. The fabric mask is also reusable at least three times (because it isn’t a wet formula, it doesn’t harbour bacteria), and, almost most genius of all, it has little loops to hold the mask over your ears (without gloop it can’t stay stuck to the skin.)
It seems impossible that a wholly dry piece of what feels like fabricy-paper could deliver any benefit at all but, trust me, it works. As I found out whilst wearing said mask in a meeting with Charlotte for half an hour. (The only thing that stopped me feeling like an idiot was the fact that the other three editors, including the legendary Newby Hands, were all sitting there with the mask on too.)
I’m no scientist but the masks works using what is know as a bio-mimetic vector delivery system, which obviates the need for a liquid carrier, and promises to give a prolonged release of the ingredients, giving it time to immerse into your complexion.
Charlotte suggests wearing a mask for fifteen minutes; I’ve done so several times, in the morning when I haven’t slept much, on the ‘plane and at home whilst writing, and each time I’ve certainly felt a smoothness and hydration in my skin that wasn’t there previously. This is definitely one for my travel bag.
Look! I’m glowing! Thanks also to the lovely makeup that Charlotte’s team gave me after our meeting.
