I love hanging out with my mother. (of course we argue like nobody’s business – but that’s par for the course), and we always try to get together for a treat day or two around Christmas and Mothering Sunday. This year we spent the Saturday of the British Mother’s Day weekend in London, kicking it off in style at the invitation of Trish McEvoy at their lovely and luxurious counter in the Selfridge’s Beauty Hall on Oxford Street.
We had been invited in for mother daughter makeovers – you can book in for £25 on 02073183861, and the cost is fully redeemable against purchase. The utterly charming artists do one side of your face, and then you copy them on the over. (Huge thanks to lovely Hollie and Sebele for looking after us.)
The session starts with hand massages.and the end result are natural, glowing faces with just the right amount of make up
I also learnt a great new trick – to use the super soft Eyeliner pencil with a flat eyeliner brush to get a narrower line to do my cat eye flicks. Genius.
There is also an embossing stand on counter so, if you buy a leather make up planner (in black, or the limited edition blue)
they will emboss your initials on in silver. Very chic. For Mother’s Day there was also glass engraving, so my mother was able to get her scent bottle engraved.
We retired afterwards to the bar in Selfridges for a celebratory glass of Champagne.
I also wanted to talk about the legendary Trish McEvoy Make Up planner. This is the small pre-filled version:
I always remember reading about these legendary beauty aids when I first became interested in make up, and I am pretty thrilled to have my own now – thank you Trish McEvoy.
So what is the planner? It’s a patented fully customisable cosmetics organiser, which aims to put an end to makeup disorder at home and on the go. The Refillable Makeup Wardrobing® Pages are magnetised to hold a custom combination of Trish eye and face colours and clip into the zippered ring binder, keeping all your makeup in one place and visible at a glance.
Each covered Page features a mirror while the Planner’s adjacent brush sleeves and large back pocket are instantly accessible for a flowing, intuitive makeup application. The removable pouch is perfect for beauty miscellany, and an all-around zipper makes it portable at a moment’s notice.
So I was sent the pre-filled Power of Make Up Planner, currently available at Selfridges, which comes with all these products (and a few more), but you can also fill up your planner yourself – gradually, or all at once under the direction of the excellent counter staff.
“I came up with the Planner when on vacation in Italy with my husband. My makeup was scattered all around our hotel’s tiny European bathroom vanity. He said to me, “Trish, there has to be a better way.” The gears started turning and I came up with planner-style concept that evolved into the patented ring binder and refillable magnetic Page system the Planner is today.
(The glass phial contains the delicious smelling No. 9 Blackberry & Vanilla Musk Pocketable Fragrance in a rollerball dispenser.)
The Power of Make Up Planner is currently available ready filled at Selfridges here, and these are the products that it contains. I’ve been testing them out for the past month, in addition to the counter makeover and, so far, colour me impressed.
