I try to pare down my hair and make up to the absolute bare essentials when I am travelling. I’ve got a separate skin care post coming up, but these are the basic hero products that I’ve been using everyday on my current trip to California. My entire make up routine takes under four minutes now: a heavy look doesn’t work in the sun, and I’m forever slathering sunblock over the top anyway.

The full list with stockist links is at the end of this post.

Lips: oh goodness I love CHANEL’s Rouge Allure lipsticks – they are matt, but super creamy, and the colours are just heaven. This colour  – La Mysterieuse is just brilliant with my dead white skin back in London, but looks even lovelier here in California, with a little bit of a tan, and seems to make my eyes even greener.

Face: My rosacea has been a bit crap of late, so I am using Vichy Dermablend‘s excellent Corrective Stick for dodgy skin (my description, clearly, not theirs) on my cheeks, chin and the triangle between and above my eyebrows. It’s really excellent at covering up flushing all day, and then I either use Lancôme’s City Miracle CC Cream during the day (SPF 50), or blend over CHANEL Perfection Lumiere foundation if I want more coverage (and it has an SPF10).

On my cheeks goes a beige MAC blusher, using a Kiko contoured blush brush. (The last thing I need is more flushing, but the beige has an excellent contouring effect.)

Eyes are super simple: CHANEL’s Stylo Yeux Waterproof in 10 Ébène (a lovely dark grey), Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara in Jet and their bloody brilliant Brow Tech in Blonde on my eyebrows, which really adds definition to my face.

My hair tangles the moment that you look at it, so I’ve become a recent convert to the Tangle Teezer, which saves So.Much.Time. I am definitely loving Bumble & Bumble’s new Full Potential line, which promised fuller looking and feeling stronger hair. I’d say it was definitely working on my naturally stick straight hair – it looks super bouncy in that pic above. I just blow dry my hair upside down for a few minutes then attack the ends with a ghd ceramic barrel brush. Five minutes tops.

Of course good wash and go hair only really works with a great cut and colour, and I can’t speak highly enough of the team at the brilliant dog-friendly Jo Hansford salon in London who see me every three months or so. Evie is a blonde highlights ninja. And she’s properly lovely too.

I do like a red nail varnish on my toes in the summer, and I’ve been using a Dolce & Gabbana Nail Lacquer, which has lasted three weeks without chipping so far.

Read while making the corn muffins from your cookbook – how a propos!
I have a question for you: I have been using since forever some of the brands you mention but I am becoming increasingly concerned with beauty products tested on animals and I am trying to move away from them. How do you feel about it?
Enjoy the Del and hope you enjoyed some of the very lovely weather we have been having here in LA.

Oof, you’re in my state! Say hi to Bumble if you meet up.

And boy oh boy you are pretty.
