DOGS TRUST SOFA COM

After Posetta Baddog died in January, we thought long and hard about whether we should offer a home to another dog.

My sister took to haunting the Dachshunds Needing Homes group on Facebook, and one day Maisie popped up. A Mini Wire, like Pottles, but eight years old, in a foster home after her person had had a stroke and moved to residential care.

We had got used to the idea of being a two dog unit when Lettice arrived back in October last year and, whilst we weren’t looking to replace P Bad, my sister was feeling very lonely without a four legged beastie in the house.

Long story short, a few months later, after my sister visited her foster home up north, Maisie came down south on Saturday to live with my sister.

And to celebrate the arrival of Maisie Moo, and to introduce her to you all, we joined forces with our friends at Dogs Trust, to photograph both Letty and Maisie in my London apartment this afternoon, on the new Sofa.com and Dogs Trust collaborative project – this amazing miniature sofa for dogs.

The sofa collaboration stemmed from a survey conducted on behalf of Dogs Trust, which revealed that 84% of people let their dogs on the sofa and what’s more, 35% of those refuse to move their snoozing hound and have sat on the floor instead. The research also shows that nearly half of dogs allowed on the sofa leave little room for other family members.

The Cecil is available in two canine-friendly sizes (this is the large version, hence room for two sausages), and can be upholstered in sofa.com’s colourful brushed linen cottons or in Fenella Smith’s utterly brilliant ‘Animals’ collection, featuring pugs, dachshunds, pheasants or Labradors, with 10% of the purchase price going to Dogs Trust.

Letty would also like you to know that the miniature sofa is excellent for sunbathing:

The Cecil is available now, and can be bought online (www.sofa.com), over the phone (03454002222) or from sofa.com’s showrooms in Chelsea and Bath. Prices start at £150. For every Cecil sold sofa.com will make a donation to help homeless hounds in the care of Dogs Trust: £8 (regular) and £10 (large) in brushed linen cotton, and £23 (regular) and £27 (large) in Fenella Smith’s fabrics. The cover is removable and washable – of course.

Love the new addition! Glad I’m not the only one who sits on the floor because the dog looks so comfy on my chair…

Dear Sasha,

We’ve been thinking of adopting a daschund for a while now. I’ve searched Facebook and googled the details for the homes that Lettice and Maisie came from, but cannot find either. Would you be able to do a post with links to the sites?

Thank you very much,

Lucy

Hi Lucy. I’m not quite sure which homes you are referring to? As I mentioned in the post, Holly heard about Maisie on the Dachshunds Needing Homes Facebook Page, and that is also where we heard about Lettice last autumn, both of whom were re-homed privately. You do need to watch the page quite regularly to hear about dogs that come up for adoption and re-homing. Good luck with your search. With best wishes, LLGxx

they look so comfy and happy – and it’s a really nice piece of furniture. If I had dogs instead of the feline version of the Mitchell Brothers, I’d get one for them.

Wishing you a comfortable, uncomplicated recovery. Love the photos of the doggies, happy your sister has found a little friend to fill the empty spot left by Posetta. Best to all for many happy years together. (From A USA friend)

How lovely to have a new companion for everyone, especially your sister. Maisie looks adorable and I’m sure she’ll soon feel right at home!

Maisie is an absolute darling, both she and Letticia are wonderful ambassadors for the ethos to ‘adopt not shop’ and what a great idea for the sofa!

A lovely addition to the family and so pleased to see Dogs Trust getting some publicity – I sponsor a lovely dog called Jock, such a worthwhile cause.
