The day before London Fashion Week in February I popped into Topshop to pick up some pieces to round out my wardrobe for the new season. I’m terrible at putting together my outfits in advance and, without fail, each season sees me running around the West End the day before LFW throwing clothes in baskets, and hoping that I’ll magically find several great looks that will see me through the week.
My absolute find this time around was this loose trench-style duster coat.
Generally I think trench coats look abysmal on 99% of the population – unless you happen to be very tall and very thin, but the loose, unstructured and unlined nature of this coat means that it hangs beautifully. It’s also uncrushable and, best of all, it’s navy. Sometimes I think that finding anything navy is like a fashion four leaf clover – they’re so rare that you start to think it doesn’t exist.
I ended up wearing it almost every day, over my navy DL jeans, with the simple French navy jersey T shirt dress, with a cream tulle lining, that I am wearing here, and over my beautiful Preen print dress.
It also happens to look excellent with my pink Raf trainers, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE.
