(I wore my pink Raf Simons x Adidas sneakers every day of LFW. Am now too addicted to comfort.)
I think it’s fair to say that packing light, when I am travelling by car, is a skill that has always eluded me. I was en route to stay at The May Fair Hotel, official hotel of London Fashion Week for two nights during the shows.
I am a big fan of the staycation in your own city: It’s wonderful being in a place where, when you return tired and hungry from a long day at the shows, everything is tidy, clean and organised, and your supper is delivered to your room. The only downside is returning home and having to unpack. On the plus side, home is only a short cab ride away.
And what a room! This is the Bamboo Suite – a duplex.
Of course, the first thing that I did was unpack and get my LFW wardrobe all lined up in the closet. (Refreshing to see lots of hangers – when I used to cover the shows in Milan for WSJ, you could guarantee that all rooms would have about four hangers. Not ideal for a fashion editor.)
On Saturday night, I was invited to the Serpentine Future Contemporaries Party by Coach, and so I hosted a small supper party in the hotel’s restaurant, the May Fair Kitchen, beforehand.
We convened in my suite for cocktails first – handily the hotel had an entire list of fashion-inspired drinks, and delivered them upstairs with aplomb.
One of the absolute joys of being in a hotel during London Fashion Week is having one’s breakfast delivered, during the frantic rush to get ready before the first show at 9am. I chose carefully: eggs and avocado for brain fuel, a berry smoothies and a pile of fresh fruit for vitamins. Coffee to give me some WHOOSH.
I’m also a fan of the gratis sweetie trolley in the lobby.
My other favourite part of being in a hotel for LFW is that when you have a copy deadline, you don’t have far to travel to get started – instead of sitting in the back of your car manically typing. And you can order room service pizza to keep you going. (I was reviewing the shows on Sunday for The LFW Daily, the official newspaper of LFW.)
Raf Simons x Adidas Stan Smith powder pink leather trainers (they keep selling out, but they’ve just had a new drop of one of each size.)
