I’ve been packing for my next trip abroad this evening, and I’m slightly stumped as to what to take on board the plane, as I don’t think my usual travel kit of ear plugs, eye mask and sleeping pills are quite what is required here.
That’s because, on what will be hands down the most unusual flight I have ever been invited on, tomorrow (Thursday 23rd) afternoon, I will be 35000 feet up high in the air on the inaugural flight of the new Virgin Atlantic 787 Dreamliner, listening to London-based bands Rudimental, and Gorgon City play the first ever gig to be live streamed from a plane over the Atlantic Ocean. (Yay!)
Hashtagged #FlightDecks, the journey will take us from London to Atlanta, Georgia for two days of celebrations and explorations, before we return on Sunday morning.
I’m excited for my first visit to Atlanta, which I associate with the Civil Rights Movement, with Coca-Cola and with the Civil War. And I’ve just about got over my jet lag from Shanghai last week, so why not start all over again?
If you’d like to track the flight, the one-time-only DJ sets will be streamed live at flightdecks.virgin-atlantic.com, and I have also embedded the livestream below.
The schedule is:
14.00 Flight departs
17.15 Gorgon City – first set
18.45 Rudimental – second set
19.45 Rudimental vs. Gorgon City – final set
Please note that as per any live event, all start times are subject to change, but Virgin Atlantic expect that all sets will be performed within a 30-minute window of the times specified.
