I’ve written before about my obsession with finding a great, quick blow out – or blow dry – in London. Manhattan spoiled me in this regard, and I’ve found it hard now that I live in London to get those great blow dries that last a few days, and give you shiny, bouncy, don’t need to worry about it hair.
I was intrigued by the idea of new group Blow London, because they don’t just offer blow dries in 30 minutes for £25, but full make up looks, and a super speedy nail shape and polish service (both fifteen minutes for £15). If I want my make up done in London, my choices are basically either the very good MAC stores, or taking a punt at a department store makeup counter, which always runs the risk of ending up looking like an 80s drag queen, but that also means having to go elsewhere for my hair and nails. Blow also open at 7 o’clock, yup that’s 7am, almost unheard of in London.
I’ve been in three times now, each when I was going to be in front of a camera for work, knew that the make up provision on set wasn’t going to be great, didn’t want to sport the usual dragged wailing through a hedge backwards look that exits my house, and had only a scant hour free.
I was particularly pleased with the look above: I had said that I was going to be photographed in strong daylight and needed something a bit heavier than normal. My artist created this in under twenty minutes, which is about the time it takes me to sharpen a kohl pencil and find my mascara.
This was for a panel I was on last week, where I was going to be in a quick group portrait for a magazine, and didn’t want to look too swishily ‘done’.
The current flagship store is off Long Acre in Covent Garden, a hop and a skip from Leicester Square, and there are more in the pipeline.
