Well this is fun: I’m very pleased and excited to announce that I am one of the eBay special curators, working on the new eBay Collections initiative in the UK, along with fellow curators TV presenter and Radio 1 DJ Reggie Yates, interior designer Kelly Hoppen, Susannah Lau of StyleBubble, Danni Minogue, and musician (Blur) and cheesemaker Alex James.
The new features launched last week, eBay Collections, Follow and eBay Today, allow customers to personalise their homepage with their own collections, alongside handpicked lists of items created by users. (I’m thrilled that today my collections are on the homepage of eBay today in the UK!)
I’ve created a series of Collections on my new eBay account which feature some of my particular obsessions. There’s The Modern Home, Kitchenalia, The Linen Closet, and Creative me, amongst others.
Visitors will be able to find, follow and share collections, as well as buy straight from them if the item is available as a “Buy It Now” product on the eBay website. (More than a million collections have already been created on eBay in the US since the feature launched there in late 2013.)
Last Thursday we all convened at the Rook and Raven gallery off Oxford Street for a major press conference, in front of seventy journalists to talk all things eBay Collections. I was asked to host the conversation between the Curators – Dannii, Alex, Reggie, Susie, Kelly and me, which was somewhat nervewracking but ultimately extremely enjoyable. (Such a lovely group of people.)
My morning started with a hair and make up call at the Sanderson Hotel at a very ungodly and dark hour. It always makes me happy to see a goodly array of camouflage equipment when I rock up at 0730hrs.
Here I am multi-tasking – simultaneously caffeinating and snapping
Lovely Athena Skouvakis does my make up on a regular basis for events, and did my hair as well this time. I’m afraid all you can see here are her eyebrows.
I was highly amused to arrive at the talent entrance for the venue and be greeted by a pack of paparazzi, all wildly taking my photo. I was wearing huge black sunglasses, and I think they were covering their backs in case I turned out to be Dannii in a blonde wig – and three sizes heavier.
First up was the photo call. This is what we see, standing in front of the photographers.
And this is what they see
Then it was on to the press conference. Unfortunately I’m cut off to the left in my hosting position of power.
Then it was upstairs to Susie’s and my corner to do press one on one interviews.
I caught sight of Dannii in action in her Collection corner
I was filmed by the eBay crew, taking them through my collections.
Here are Reggie and Alex in their Collections corners:
And then home to take off my lovely red shoes, and peruse my boards, yet again. ( I managed to buy quite a lot of things, whilst putting my Collections together before the conference.)
