I’m not a big advance thinker on the personal grooming front: usually I arrive at the day before some big event or shoot and start frantically ringing around trying to find an available appointment. Or I suddenly sit up and decided that I have to deal with my split ends NOW.
Either way, I often find myself in Charles Worthington on Percy Street, just around the corner from Charlotte Street and Tottenham Court Road, and less than ten minutes from my office in Camden. That’s because they are one of the very, very few salons that opens early on a Sunday — at 10am. It is beyond helpful for last minute, time poor people like me, and I have never had a less than excellent chop there.
I’ve been in several times before a Sunday lunchtime event, and sometimes just because it’s a brilliant use of otherwise pretty dead time.
I popped in for a 10am Sunday appointment two weeks ago, before the Audi polo in the afternoon at Coworth Park, to get a couple of inches of sun blasted and pond marinated ends lopped off, which had been annoying me. I figured I may as well get it done before the polo, so I would have a glossy blowdry for the day. (Of course I booked myself in at 5pm on Saturday; I’m often the only client in the salon first thing on Sundays, although there is usually someone booked in straight after me.)
My stylist was the lovely Fiona Haywood, and she gave me an excellent and considered blunt cut trim, which blow dries perfectly, and looks more than passable when I am too lazy to wield a hairdryer.
