It’s not every day that I invite twenty-five girlfriends plus children, including actresses Alexandra Roach and Camilla Rutherford, Olympic medallist Kate Walsh, fashion editors from The Times, Grazia, NeverUnderdressed, Stylist, and Style, TV producers, models, CEOs, and musicians, to my flat to try on clothes, drink pink Champagne and eat cake, but last week that’s exactly what I did to great success.
I had partnered with Boden to hold a VIP trunk show, with rails from the High Summer, AW13, Mini and Baby Boden, and Johnnie B collections on display. Everyone attending got to choose a piece from the new AW13 collection, and order from the current collections at a lovely big discount.
Made.com lent me the taupe faux suede armchair in the photos below, and this fabulous sofa for my office, so guests would have somewhere to sit whilst mulling over their orders. (I removed my dining table, and moved my own Made.com office sofa into the conservatory/dining room as it is bigger.)
I went to New Covent Garden Flower market in Vauxhall at the crack of dawn three days beforehand to buy armfuls of flowers to fill the house, scented stocks, blush roses, white hydrangeas, snapdragons and pale pink peonies.
We scented the house with Diptyque candles, in lovely summer garden scents, Feuille de Lavande, Roses and Menthe Vert.
We set up rails in the conservatory, kitchen and office.
I even cleared out my wardrobes, so we could hang Baby Boden in there.
I made afternoon tea for the first half, served with Veuve Clicquot Rose Champagne, Earl Grey tea and delicious Koji Lemon & Ginger soft drinks. Then from around five we served tapas with chilled Tio Pepe Fino sherry, which was perfect for such a beautiful summer evening. (I used my Wedgwood tea service to display everything.)
Amazing how cake draws children like bees to a honey pot
Actress and model Camilla Rutherford came with two of her three children, Nancy and Maud,
Clare Shaw, CEO of Mini Mozart came, along with her two children, Oliver and Luella.
Here’s Luella rocking some Boden sunglasses, with Oliver (my eldest godson).
The grown ups weren’t the only ones who were interested in the shoes.
There was quite a lot of trying on of clothes: here is Olympic medallist Kate Walsh, captain of Team GB Women’s Hockey, looking ravishing in an AW13 Boden coat. (This was by far the most popular piece of the day: ordered by several fashion editors too.)
Here’s Alexandra Roach, taking time out on the steps to the roof.
Here’s Vera (she’s a model – can you tell?!) and the brilliant interior designer Clare Dobner, who also runs her husband’s, the artist Rory Dobner, business.
There was much order taking (we hadn’t thought everyone would order *quite* so much), and Josie and Lizzie from the Boden press office were kept busy until the very last guest.
Here’s Lizzie and stylist Hannah Teare in my office.
And, of course, there were lovely going home presents for everyone: Diptyque candles, Burberry Beauty lipsticks, and Boden bunting and note books.
Huge thanks to everyone at Boden, and to all my friends for such a lovely afternoon. More to come on the food and flowers! We’ve also made a little film about the afternoon.
