27th, 28th and 29th DEC — Snowed up. Innocent indoor recreations, music, flirtation, &tc. Diana Wood is a fine girl.
2ND JAN. – Snow nearly gone. Squire Mallow (the country buck) saw a chance of shining, and sent for hounds today. Found a fox in the laurels. I took the lead (to Mallow’s disgust) and gave it to Diana.
Had to admonish Mallow for riding dangerously close behind me over fences.
Pleasant ride home with Diana.
3RD JAN. — There is no doubt about Diana being a fine girl – has very pretty manners too – (must be careful, Carlyon, my boy!) Today Mallow disturbed us when I was reading to her. He looked fierce and banged the door. Believe he is a suitor.
4TH JAN. – Business old gentleman waited on me with challenge from Mallow. Choice of weapons with me, of course.
5TH JAN. – I chose the weapons – whips. Snow had fallen in the night. We fought from 8.37 to 10.14A.M. Feel quite sore.
8TH JAN. – Fleet Street again. Dined at old place. Principally off her miniature. Will write to-morrow.

I want to read more!
@Angela: Me too! But that’s it, unfortunately. Although I understand that two years later he published Diana Wood’s Wedding! I found one print reproduced on the internet, but that was it. I’d love to read it. LLGxx

@sadie: I’m so glad you like it too! It’s always reassuring when my lovely readers like the same things. LLGxx
I’ve established that she married Robert Carlyon. And half wish I had the spare cash to acquire this, but can’t really justify…..
