The A Day in the Life series on LLG is fast becoming one of my favourite strands on the blog. I came up with the idea because I wanted to support female entrepreneurs, and to provide great role models for younger women, showing how some of the most successful women I know, in all walks of life, run their days.
I admire enormously the entrepreneurial spirit, abundant charm, and extraordinary fashion savvy behind new online designer retail site Avenue32.com, and so I asked Roberta Benteler, its Founder, and Erin Mullaney, its Fashion Director, to be the next contributors to A Day in a Life, to give us a behind the scenes look at a day checking out the new collections and possible designers for Avenue32 at New York Fashion Week.
Avenue32 has become one of my favourite online retail destinations. Conceived as shopfront for some of the world’s most interesting designers, it’s a fantastic one stop shop for most every fashion occasion. And because the pages of Avenue 32 feature high fashion editorial, updated weekly with brand new content and product I find myself clicking back again and again.
Take it away girls:
Sunday: 730am Our jet lag kicks in as we only arrived yesterday but we wake up sharp to start our busy first day. Check emails and make phone calls to the office to catch up with the team back home.
830am We have an NY team breakfast with Maya Singer, Creative Director at Large, and Romilly Mason our online Editor-in-Chief, to discuss what shows and appointments we are looking forward to seeing during the week. It’s a packed schedule!
10am It’s the Peter Som show where we spotted ingenue Hailee Steinfeld in the front row looking beautiful in green lace. Loved Peter Som’s uptown girl meets 90s grunge with pastel streaked hair and mini veils.
11am We meet with new designer Nellie Partow who walks us through her new collection and introduced us to infamous fashion dog Luna!
Midday We have an appointment with BLK DNM in their Soho store. We’re loving that a painting by our friend Ollie Clefts is the first thing you see and the wall of denim is to die for! Their store is so imaginative and fun. The new collection is a mix of devore, leather and lots of optic white which we are noticing is a huge emerging trend in NY.
1pm Lunch with our Starworks Group PR team on the roof of Soho House in the scorching sunshine. The weather has been amazing!
2pm We head to the meatpacking district and the Yigal Azrouël show based in a cool warehouse setting. Yigal surprised everyone with his clean palette and silhouettes, proving that he is not just about print.
3pm The feet are starting to hurt so quick change into our flats on the Highline.
315pm Jump in a taxi uptown to check out Barney’s new shoe floor. We wish we had something similar in the UK. Their windows were even better with pink fish nibbling at wax Louboutins and roller skating heels.
4pm We take five minutes to stroll through Central Park enjoying the sunshine on our way to check out the new Proenza store on Madison Avenue; nice to see the boys adding some downtown cool to the Upper East Side.
430pm Pick me up at our favourite new York fro-yo joint Pinkberry.
5pm We head back downtown to The Standard Hotel for the Prism presentation on the rooftop. As always the sun shines for Prism designer Anna Laub and her lounging sun seekers. Lots of editors seem to be embracing the sunshine and there are bright colourful ensembles everywhere.
6pm Back to Soho House to check out LA based shoe designer Jerome Rousseau’s new collection. We are loving his newly launched handbag range and his architectural wedged shoes based on postmodern design and Miami beach pastels.
While there we ran into up and coming jewellery designer Lizzie Fortunato who shares the exciting news with us that she is doing the jewellery for Matthew’s show next week.
7pm We hot foot it back to the hotel for a change of clothes and head off to dinner at The Spotted Pig, our favourite West Village local, the food is heavenly.
8.30pm Next stop is the Noir Seven Shades of Sin exhibition which has incredible installations; it’s such an amazing space.
9.30pm We’re off to the Suno party at a private apartment in Chinatown for some dancing.
2.00am Finally fall into bed exhausted and desperately needing to recharge our batteries before another full day at New York Fashion Week tomorrow.
We’ve posted the rest of the fabulous photos from their day at NYFW in an album over on the LLG Facebook page.
