The May issue of Sainsbury’s (one of the UK’s largest supermarkets) magazine has a story which may just feature me and some recipes I developed for them for a perfect spring lunch menu. We shot the story back in January at a location in Perseverance Works in East London, and I th9ught you may like to see some of the backstage action.
All the recipes were cooked in the kitchen before being styled by Kate Titford, Sainsbury’s Magazine’s Food Editor, & photographed both during prep and after as still lives by Jonathan Gregson. (Who completely coincidentally photographed my mother cooking for another food magazine back in 2005.)
After talking to Liz Belton, the props stylist, who visited my flat for a chat beforehand, I brought along some of my own glass, crockery (including this Noritake china) & vintage silver cutlery for the shoot. Liz also bought along a wide range of china and, flowers and other props.
Because we were shooting in a private home, as opposed to a location house or studio, there were some inhabitants already in situ:
Which became a slight issue when the second portrait subject arrived, and proceeded to get up, down and inside pretty much everyone’s business.
Sadly P Bad didn’t make the final edit, much to our chagrin. Mind you, that dog has got above itself since this.
