The May issue of Sainsbury’s (one of the UK’s largest supermarkets) magazine has a story which may just feature me and some recipes I developed for them for a perfect spring lunch menu. We shot the story back in January at a location in Perseverance Works in East London, and I th9ught you may like to see some of the backstage action.

All the recipes were cooked in the kitchen before being styled by Kate Titford, Sainsbury’s Magazine’s Food Editor, & photographed both during prep and after as still lives by Jonathan Gregson. (Who completely coincidentally photographed my mother cooking for another food magazine back in 2005.)

After talking to Liz Belton,  the props stylist, who visited my flat for a chat beforehand, I brought along some of my own glass, crockery (including this Noritake china) & vintage silver cutlery for the shoot. Liz also bought along a wide range of china and, flowers and other props.

Because we were shooting in a private home, as opposed to a location house or studio, there were some inhabitants already in situ:

Which became a slight issue when the second portrait subject arrived, and proceeded to get up, down and inside pretty much everyone’s business.

Sadly P Bad didn’t make the final edit, much to our chagrin. Mind you, that dog has got above itself since this.

Isn’t this the same location they used for Jamie’s 30 min dinners?

Oh how wonderful. It’s the kitchen from 30 minute meals, isn’t it?

Isn’t the kitchen the same as the one used in Jamies 30 Minute Meals with Jamie Oliver? The layout is surprisingly identical! Pic here: http://www.ilovemygrub.com/news/2011/jamie-oliver039s-30-minute-meals-sparks-kitchen-gadget-craze

@tricia: Hey Trica, thank you! I’ve forwarded your comment to my mama. I bully her weekly on this topic. She’s been so caught up in moving house, and building her new life post-divorce that she hasn’t felt mentally able to blog, but she says she is going to start soon. LLGxx

@LLG: I second that comment about missing Mama’s blog.

I saw the pic and thought, hey isn’t this jamie’s kitchen, turns out 30 mins meals is quite popular amongst your readers. Going back to more important topic though, Wow! This is such a great opportunity, huge congrats! I will definitely be picking up a copy xo

@Lola: Thanks Lola! I would have done some screen shots – although TBH I LOATHE the portrait of me. (Partly my fault as the dress I chose to wear apparently makes me look upholstered in photos) & the make up didn’t read), but the food p*rn shots are amazing. – but I gave my copy to my mama. LLGxx

I love Sainsbury’s magazine! I genuinely think it’s an excellent, good value lifestyle read with recipes I actually want to cook. This sounds like lots of fun to do! I will look forward to reading the piece properly

@Rose beyond the Thames: I agree! I’m a huge fan, and very charmed that they asked me to participate. And it’s great that it’s not an interview with me, but really just the food. (I’m bored of myself!) LLGxx

I remember Jamie saying it was his sister-in- laws kitchen?

V. excited for you and wish I could see a hard copy of the mag when it comes out. Oh dear! Apologies for my unintentional double entendre. This is why I don’t comment often. It’s just not good for anyone..
