Today was really a properly lovely day. From a delicious breakfast in great company at The Wolseley’s new sister, The Delaunay, to the romance of a heavy snowfall this evening, it was one of the most wholly enjoyable Saturdays I’ve had since I moved back to London.
Altho it wasn’t really breakfast, but brunch, as we ate at 11am, but the slightly over-bearing and all-pervasive American habit of having to eat out mid-morning at weekends has thankfully never really caught on over here. And that meant that The Delaunay, even tho it’s smokin’ hot right now, wasn’t that busy. Which suited me just fine, as I wasn’t there to people watch, but talk to my companion, drink strong coffee and eat eggs.
The afternoon was split between the comfort of my silk eiderdown, with P Bad curled in the crook of my legs, for some Henning Mankell action, and the clean, crisp air of Regent’s Park just before dusk.
P Bad has a thyroid condition at the moment, so her fur is thinning, hence her natty aviator’s jacket, matched with her brand new Bill & Eddie chrome bone collar. As per, she split her time between digging to the Antipodes and chasing tennis balls.
We walked for an hour in the almost empty park, with the trees still leafless and the sky full of the snow to come.
Then home to find my sister luxuriating in a bath laced with my best bath oil (her flat is being renovated). The snow started falling heavily, so I drove her & P Bad home, very very slowly as the roads were blanketed already, and came home to cook my gnocchi dish.
Internal central heating is always the way forward.
A friend sent me photos of a snow-covered street outside London, so I popped outside to see if it was still snowing, and discovered that in the two hours since I had driven home, Camden was properly white-outed, and the sky was still full of flakes. I adore London in the snow, the gentle peace that falls and the white camouflage, but just wish I didn’t have a car coming at 9am to take me to a shoot in Shoreditch — I’m supposed to be filming outdoors for a TV thing for four hours.
Thermal knickers here I come.
(Oh isn’t it all SO beautiful? Look: it’s still snowing.)

@Rose: Let’s do it one weekend! LLGxx
I just LOVE P Bad’s jacket so warm and so groovy!
@sam: the poor little thing gets so shivery in this weather, so she cld wear anything & I’d be happy she was warm, but that jacket is partic pleasing! LLGxx
Photos of the gorgeous Posetta always make me so broody for a dog…
Also as soon as I reach the carb friendly part of Dukan, I am making that gnocchi — you’ve become my go to recipe blog
@Mademoiselle Mongoose: Wow thanks! That’s just an AMAZING thing to hear LLGxx
Where does that lovely aviator’s jacket come from? It would look gorgeous on my basset…
Major compliments on the blog. Actually look forward to the email popping in my box.
@JJS: Honestly, between you & Mademoiselle Mongoose I am blushing away like a tomato!
I’ll ask my sister who found it — knowing her, she bought it on-line…LLGxx
@JJS:
My ‘Wiggles’ aviator jacket was an ebay purchase many moons ago. It’s made by a company called Danish Designs. Think they no longer make it (a bad call..) but they do have many other styles — definitely worth a google/ebay investigation.

@‘Lil Sis:
*NEWS FLASH*
P Bad’s coat is a ‘Waggles’ not Wiggles Flying jacket & Danish Designs have updated it so there is more tummy coverage. Available in lots of sizes from Pet Planet : http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product_group.asp?dept_id=1342&pg_id=1404
@‘Lil Sis: Dear Posetta, Sorry to take so long to reply — have been away for a few days. Thank you so much for the info. I’ll definitely look into it, though my basset will have trouble looking as good as you in it
Fond woofs from both of us
I’ve loved seeing all the pictures of London in the snow this weekend — kind of made up for not getting any here in the New Forest. P Bad’s coat is so chic and looks very warm and snuggly! A lovely post to read with Monday morning coffee — thank you! p.s Hope the thermals did the trick…Brrrrr…

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Even though we’re having a week or two of cooler temps as a reprieve from summer down under, I am still longing for the return of winter…
Very envious of your Saturday right now…
Sounds blissful Does anyone else’s ears prick like proverbial Jewish mama at reference to ‘companion’. Love that Gnocchi dish of yours.
On Saturday I managed to snag some more Uniqlo thermals from their Regent Street branch as recommended by you — thanks! I got the thick ribbbed leggings, extra long, as I had already bought a pair last autumn which I have been wearing almost non stop. Also bought a few more tops. Looked in vain for the heattech socks, completely sold out. Thankfully I already have four pairs. It had just started snowing in central London when I arrived at about 630. By the time I arrived home in South London, about 830 the side streets and pavements were carpeted in snow. i
How lovely! That gnocchi dish looks incredible and far more suitable for a winter’s day than my choice of cuisine on Sunday– Sushi!

there are two Roses which is very confusing as I can’t leave my URL anymore! Anyway my point was going to be that that sounds like a fabulous day and also that i wish I had a dog for walking most days but especially on snow days– dogs are so fun and silly in the snow! My dog used to pull my sledge by a rope like a little horse (she was a boxer crossed with a lab– a boxador and they are very strong for their size!)
Makes me look forward to the summer looking at these pictures — and I will be wearing floaty tops and maybe a designer kaftan
Hi LLG!
Forgive me for being so far behind in my reading, but I had to leave a comment. I love seeing your Regent’s Park photos. It’s my favorite park in London (nostalgic from going to uni in that very park), and seeing photos of the park always brings a big smile to my face.

@LLG I have just noticed the bassets in your headline banner! How could I have missed them before? Soooo Gorgeous!! Are they the French “basset artésien normand”? Mine is one of those (and loves the sofa too).
