Daisy & I met at a London Fashion Week party for Glenda Bailey, when I drooled over her beautiful jewellery (you really can’t take me anywhere…). She has so many stories about the inspiration behind her pieces, that I immediately asked her if she would like to guest blog for LLG – I always think that one of this site’s raison d’etres is to give people an insider’s peek into other people’s world, be they mine, or those of the lovely people I meet…
I’m an avid reader of the fabulous LLG blog so when I was asked to guest blog I was really honoured. For my blog I’d like to give you a sneaky preview of my new Wise collection and the inspiration behind it!
When I began thinking about my new collection, I visited the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford, which I often do when starting a collection. It’s this really cool museum, which is a collection of one man’s (Pitt Rivers) assortment of things which he collected throughout his travels around the world. From ancient tattooing equipment to miniature models and beads, it has so much to see and every time I go I spot something new. It’s a great place to be inspired and sit and sketch.
I was inspired by all the African wrist and neckpieces, with all their stunning colours, layers of beads and what they represent. This, combined with thoughts of my father who is a sailor,
was where I started with my Wise collection. The anchor motif is an obvious link to my sailor father who this collection is named after. The two colour ways are drawn from my visit to the Pitt Rivers and the colours I saw there, the garnet and onyx is the evil pirate and the turquoise and crushed died coral is the jolly sailor, the wearer picks a side.
From collating my sketches and ideas I then draw with the metal and make silver models. I love experimenting with the metal directly sometimes you end up designing something you didn’t even have in mind in the first place!
The collection doesn’t launch until November but in the meantime I’m offering LLG readers 10% off their next order from www.daisyknights.com for this week only. Email orders to email@example.com and quote LLG2011.
