Judging the Starbucks/Vogue/Central St Martins competition on Fashion’s Night Out was hard, even with the feedback of my brilliant LLG readers.. I was very impressed with the high standard of all five finalists, who showed great imagination and talent, but it was important to pick not only the most talented illustrator, but the one who reacted to the brief in the best way
After all it wasn’t just an abstract commission: the winning design was going on a box of Starbucks Petites, (yummy little cakes), that would be available at Fashion’s Night Out and on the seats at several London Fashion Week shows. So the illustration needed to marry together both Starbucks and fashion.
So, after much deliberation, I chose Joseph Larkowski’s design. He was a firm favourite with my readers too. He used Starbucks green for the accent colour in his design, and I thought his said ‘fashion’ in a manner that was both sophisticated and approachable.
Joseph was completely charming, and charmed me even more, when he announced that he would be giving his £500 pound prize to his parents for supporting him though college.
Here’s my box – after I had eaten all the cakes within for breakfast the next morning. I’m very much looking forward to seeing it at London Fashion Week.
