I’ve just received a very exciting email and, although I don’t really run fashion news on LLG, I am making an exception for this, as I have been dying to know who Azzaro would appoint to replace Vanessa Seward who has done such a great job there, since joining the company in 2002 as first assistant to the founding designer, Loris Azzaro, and becoming creative director a year later after Azzaro’s demise. (She stepped down in March this year.)

So the release:

Azzaro announces the arrival of a new Creative Director, Mathilde Castello Branco, who will occupy the post as of September 1st 2011. The Franco-Brazilian Castello Branco, aged 39, studied in Paris at the École Duperré and the Atelier Chardon Savard before working at Hermès and later at Lanvin, where she worked alongside Alber Elbaz for ten years.

Driven by the desire to bring together elegance and sensuality in a single contemporary vision, Mathilde Castello Branco designs clothes to be worn by the women of today, in her own image.

Founded by Loris Azzaro in 1967, the house of 65 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré has always brought together femininity and savoir-faire. Behind the mythical “three ring” dresses worn on the red carpet by the world’s brightest stars lies a genuine craftsmanship and passion for fabric.

Mathilde Castello Branco’s arrival marks a new step in the development of the house of Azzaro. Her principal mission will consist in developing the house’s collections (for men and women) whilst drawing on Loris Azzaro’s heritage. “I have always admired Loris Azzaro’s modernity and creations, and I was impressed by Mathilde’s career and personality. Since acquiring the brand in 2006, we have succeeded in “reviving” it. The brand is now ready to focus on this important new step,” says Maria Reig, owner of the Reig Capital group, principal shareholder for the Azzaro brand.

Mathilde’s first collection for Azzaro will be presented for Autumn-Winter 2012-13, in March 2012.
