I first ran this post in the spring and am re-producing the post in memoriam of the seminal 90s photographer Corinne Day, who died this weekend. I had the pleasure of working with her once, about ten years ago, on Condé Nast Traveller, when we sent sent her off on a road trip around Texas with Rose Ferguson and some other friends. She came in with a hilarious – and excellent – set of images, and I remember her as being nothing but charming and funny to work with, as her  London accent echoed around the hushed Vogue House corridors.

RIP Corinne.

I found this iconic issue of The Face from July 1990 in the attic, along with the Depp & Kylie covers I posted last week. The cover and topless image are reproduced constantly, but I don’t recall seeing the others recently, so thought I’d scan them for your edification.

Kate Moss was fifteen when she shot the story, styled by Melanie Ward, which launched her career. The photographs were taken on Camber Sands in England, a traditional seaside resort, and were astonishing for their raw, verité feel; an antidote to the glossy Vogue supermodels. The images were seen by Fabien Baron, and Moss’s relationship with Calvin Klein began. It’s difficult to over emphasise how influential this story was at the time.

My dear stersister, may you be in that better place. You’ll forever be terribly missed. This just isn’t fair! You were far too young and had too much to give the world to pass away at your age.

Read this news first on your site LLG and agree with the other comments here – v, very sad. She was enormously talented and will live on through those wonderful pictures, which absolutely captured a moment in fashion. It takes me right back to when I started working in the industry.
