Kurt Geiger leopard heels

The shoes, they are a’changing

July 21, 2010 · 18 comments

When I flew over to Madrid from New York at the end of May my baggage allowance was just 23kilos.  So when I packed I eschewed pole dancer shoes – you know the ones I mean.… the heavy platform soled numbers with vertiginous heels, multiple straps & ankle-breaking potential that have been kicking around for the past couple of years, for ballerines, some light summer wedges & my Converse. And, now that I’m assessing my wardrobe for Fall, I couldn’t care less that my shoes didn’t make it to London via Madrid.

I had bought into the trend at some point in 2008 and up until this spring my clumpy leg extenders were still going strong, but as I start to plan out my wardrobe for this autumn they just seem wrong, wrong, wrong, whilst the pointy toe, platform-less court that Stella McCartney et al are pushing for the new season looks absolutely now.

With new shoe thoughts lurking at the back of my mind, I hit up Kurt Geiger whilst waiting for the bus on Rosslyn Hill on Monday. (Ideal  positioning: instead of waiting in the street, I can try on shoes with half an eye on the stop. And take sneaky, one shot Blackberry photos before sprinting out the store & onto the bus.)

And I rather fell for these. I do like a little bit of leopard…

Love. And with a manageable “I’m not a stripper heel.” Gracias, amiga.

Classic shoe. Classic Leopard. Perfect. I do like the pole dancing shoe for certain occasions though. ;)

They’re BEAUTIFUL.

I love that KG store but it’s so not good that it’s facing the crêpe stall…

I also like that the new winter shoes mean I get some old beauties refurbished and ready to go! I have liked the platform trend as I’m short but I was never into the ridiculous shoes that took over, no one can actually walk in some of the shoes that have been around and some of them were clearly the shoes of a lap dancer which is not for me!

I am a big fan of the classic court; though I have nothing against the skyscraper stripper style, all that strapping can actually work against you and make your ankles look chunky. A closed toe and streamline elongates the leg as well as an enormous platform, and looks elegant to boot. And I love the leopard print (at the moment I am trying to find a nude court which doesn’t make me look jaundiced)

God I love courts. I never clomped onto the platform bandwagon — it’s tricky enough finding men to look up to (literally and figuratively) and I’m only 5′ 7″! I’m not crazy about the look of them either. Yey for the return of wearable heels! Those KGs are to die for. Wish I could afford them. £210 seems an awful lot for a pair of highstreet heels though, even though I know Kurt Geiger is ‘high-end high street’. I actually already have some old leopard print courts from Cara a few years ago — will attempt to resurrect them!

20 kilos is the limit for luggage to travel overseas from Australia. Truly frightening. I’d love to wangle 23 kilos.

I’d have been after these in a flash 20 years ago. That means not that the shoe is dated, but that I am. I had a Dior suit with a leopard collar and cuffs that would’ve looked smashing with these.

I say go for it. The classic shape offsets the spots and you’ve got the gams for them.

Ooh! I bought some leopard print Mary Janes last autumn but haven’t had the nerve to wear them, partly because I like opaques and I’m not sure that they look right with them.

I am so glad it’s not just me who needs a break from teetering on the platform peeptoes. Its not that I don’t love them, I do…it’s just that I love my feet even more and a classic heel is thing of beauty. I’m counting down a 4 week holiday to the UK in October with my fabulous little family and a few pairs of platformless shoes are on the agenda. I can see why you fell for a touch leopard…just gorgeous.

Agreed. the scary leg extenders are lovely to look at but hardly wearable in day-to-day life, especially if you are a modern mom about town… with a tot in tow. Which is why I end up wearing my Revas all the friggin’ time… or flat gladiators. Give us back the heels dammit! Ones we won’t break our neck in, possibly ;-)

Its an actual fact that very bad spraining;or torn Achilles, and even the dreaded fracture of the lower end of the fibula , which may require insertion of metalwork , are all increasing in our A&E dept due to falling over/off/twisting the ankle area from wearing the ubiquitous platform shoe. Lets all go back to wearing normal classy pumps/courts say I. More ladylike and less painfull !!!
