Lee Jean Youn for MANGO

One of the reason’s I accepted MANGO’s invitation to fly to Madrid from New York for their AW10 show last month was because I wanted to see how the company was evolving — over the past three years they’ve had a radical re-think of the brand and launched an international fashion competition.

Prior to summer 2007 I didn’t shop in MANGO in the UK as they didn’t stock much over a UK 12. Then the company did an abrupt about turn, started making size 18s, and hired Crystal Renn to promote their larger sizes. Hallelujah! I cried here on LLG.

Then they caught my attention with the launch of the El Botón-Mango Fashion Awards in 2008 for seriously credible young fashion designers with a hefty cash prize  (300,000 euros last year) and an invitation to design a limited edition capsule collection for the store.

Last year’s finalists included Jean Pierre Braganza (United Kingdom), Silvia García Presas (Spain), Josh Goot (Australia), Jaeha Alex Kim (New Zealand),  Jakub Polanka (Czech Republic), Jean Lee Youn (Korea) , Christian Wijnants (Belgium), and the partnerships formed by Miriam Lehle & Sabina Egler (Germany), Peter Pilotto & Christopher de Vos (UK) and Aleksandar Stanic & Fiona Sinha (UK).

The winner was the 32 yr old Korean designer Lee Jean Youn, and his 11-piece capsule collection Lee Jean Youn for MANGO dropped this season (Spring/Summer 2010).

I’m wearing this ravishing sea-green silk & silver paillettes cocktail dress above — MANGO very kindly gave the editors who attended its show a gift card to spend and, having seen MANGO’s UK publicist look drop dead gorgeous in the blue version at the fashion show after-party, tracked it down in London. As I’m pretty well-endowed & wear a Mango size large/UK14, I wasn’t sure if it would work on me. But tt has a zipped integral camisole to hold you in under the flowing top, which also conveniently hides the tops of the arms — my most hated body part.

Although I do seem to scatter paillettes in my wake, I’m impressed.

This dress seems to have sold out in a lot of places online (although I bought mine from the flagship MANGO store on London’s Regent Street & they had plenty.) I couldn’t find it on MANGO’s on-line retail site, but I tracked one down on-line here at ASOS, and they have it in both the green & cobalt blue colourway.

I can’t believe you are UK size 14! Or L!
You look lovely in this dress, and I would say you are size 10, maybe 12 on to due to large bust.

I love this dress as well as your heels. I can’t believe you’re a size 14 because you look really lean and slim. I haven’t shopped at Mango for years now but I’m going to check out their website right now.

Size doesn’t matter–it’s how one looks & you look fantastic. (Yes, those shoes/sandals are superb, too.) I love the color of the dress as well.

Thank you everyone for such lovely, lovely comments. I’ve lost a lot of weight through being sick, and have been feeling awful, so it’s very cheering to come on & read these comments! LLGxx
