It seems appropriate that, as I am staying in a hotel villa with an Oscar de la Renta designed interior, I should post these photographs of the most divine Miss O by Oscar de la Renta silk three piece that I found in a trunk in the attic.
My mother thinks she bought it in 1982 from Austin Reed in London, when a UK size 14 was more like a UK10-12. There’s a turquoise camisole, with a soft belt & matching loose jacket, and a full calf length gathered waist skirt.

it’s a beauty but oh no, is it really put on the floor for the photo to be taken?
Lovely, and just right for variable-temperatured early spring. O de la R seems rather under appreciated in this country — the clothes are not usually very cutting edge, but do seem immensely wearable for the 99% of us who aren’t avant-gardeists.
Great find, love it!

I swear my mother had that jacket and cami… off to look at old photos to id if I can…
isn’t that a funny coincidence– and the shirt is a beautiful colour!
That is a beautiful outfit!
Funny that you mention the dress sizes today and back then — I just read an article about ‘vanity sizing’. And I thought I’d magically dropped a dress size without losing a gram during the past years
Very nice, but i’d loooove to see the outfit actually worn by some one !
