Barbour, reinvented for the 21st century

Posetta Baddog is beside herself with glee: she is now convinced that she is a bone fide celeb. First she gets a full page in Grazia and a mention in Red, and then, today, her first ever press gift. Barbour emailed to very kindly offer her a waxed Barbour dog coat, and she’s been insufferable ever since. (Here she is waiting for her agent to call.)

Although I’m not convinced of the benefit of coats to larger dogs, on delicate whippets and on miniature wire-haired dachshunds with no tummy fur at all like Posetta, they can be extremely useful in winter-y weather. So Posetta has accepted her gift with alacrity.  Meanwhile I went on to the Barbour site for a poke around, seeing as how the last contact I had with a Barbour was on a young farmer in the beer tent at a point-to-point in Leicestershire somewhere around 1999.

And goodness, things have changed around there. There was this:
Barbour assymetric antique biker jacket
Barbour Ladies Antique Asymmetric Biker Jacket £179.95
And, best of all, this:
Barbour Ladies International jacket
Ladies International £229.95Which was apparently inspired by Barbour’s motorcycle history. I do like a jacket with umpteen pockets for all my junk. Very nice indeed.

Head over here for a good edit of the best pieces of the new collection (with pics on models.)

Love the last jacket, I am always on the lookout for a moto jacket that isn’t cropped.

Also, I just have to say, you disappeared from my feed a couple of weeks ago and it turns out it was the day before your big reveal! I thought posting seemed light… So I’m glad to finally “meet” you, and congratulations!

I love that Barbour International jacket. However, it’s made for the short-bodied folk. From behind, on me, it gave a “long ass” effect– not attractive.

What an adorable picture of Posetta. You need to show us her wearing the new coat.

Ah yes, I’ve got one of their new “Emily” superflyweight waxed utility jackets and I LOVE IT. It’s a slam dunk of a modernisation xxx

Hi! I’ve got this jacket but with the hard to get ‘tonal’ badge ie black. No glaring yellow logo, just a subtle dark wording…much better! Fits well with a slimline and cinch in belt. So glad Posetta is as warm and stylish as you! Sx

I have seen the Barbour dog coats, and very good value they are too!
I have a waxed coat (not Barbour) for Edwyn, but even it didn’t keep out torrential rain in the Lakes.….
I am still searching for the ultimate in waterproof outwear for both the dog and myself, the Barbour Ladies International is my favourite stylewise so far, BUT I still would like something a bit longer that would keep above my knee dry.
I loved all the parka’s in the Burberry and Topman shows, and would love it if Barbour would do a stylish parka type, truely waterproof coat, with all the useful pockets and bits — I’ve drawn it and everything!!

I believe Kirstie Allsopp was wearing the Barbour Ladies International last week on Relocation*. If it’s good enough for Kirstie, it’s good enough for the rest of us! x

*Oh god, I know too much.

this post makes me chuckle bc it reminds me of my first (and so far, only) barbour moment. i’d just moved from DC to the english countryside to live with my fiancé, and he kept telling me how i needed to get a barbour jacket for when we went beating. so, off i went to the local store, and i came home with this fabulous, aubergine item from their international range (it kind of looks like the one you highlight above, but is a quilted version and came out last fall). anyway, i came home so excited and fiancé just looked at me and rolled his eyes. apparently my aubergine delight was not exactly the wax, durable version he’d meant for walking through all sorts of brush and spikey bramble. oh well. it’s lovely.
